Chapeltown Youth Resident – Passes Audtion for National Centre for Circus Arts

Zion Webber a young Rastafarian age 12 years old and a pupil at the OFSTED Outstanding CAPA Juniors Performance Arts School (Wakefield), has recently found out the amazing news that he has a conditional place at The London Centre of Circus Arts near Shoreditch.

Zion from Chapeltown in North Leeds, is elated at the news of his successful audition. Zion at 4 years old began training with GB Gold Medalist, Nile Wilson at Leeds Gymnastics Centre in Seacroft as part of Team GB, Juniors. When Zion decided to take a break from Gymnastics he joined the local Youth Circus (Leeds Children’s Circus) located on the boundary of Chapeltown and Harehills, close to his home. The inner-city community based charity aims to encourage young people to realise their true creative potential and develop self confidence. Activities include the Unicycle, Ariel and weekly YouthClub. Zion participated in the Leeds Triathalon with his Unicycle, he has been filmed for Made in Leeds TV and visited the centre in London in 2016 (The National Centre for Circus Arts) as part of the National Youth Circus Residential.

In 2017 he applied to enter the Youth Development Programme and was selected to join a unique team of international tutors and pupils to learn Acrobatics as his core Circus Skill.

Zion has grown in confidence and has transferable skills, he joins the unique talents of many young people from Chapeltown once home to premiership footballer Micah Richards, Olympic Diver Yona Knight-Wisdom. This year Chapeltown celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Leeds West-Indian Carnival
In a Child-Friendly City, (Leeds) Zion was inspired when he went with his local circus group to watch Cirque de Soleil at Leeds Arena. You never know one day you may see Zion performing at Glastonbury 2019 performing in the big Circus Top or in Europe.

More recently a young Wakefield sisters Zoe and Zara Mc Lean became part of the international circus touring show.
