Launch of A New Age Friendly Scheme in Leeds

Come In And Rest – Launch Event: Thursday 25 January, 12pm at St Gemma’s Hospice, 329 Harrogate Road, Leeds LS17

Age Friendly Leeds is set to launch a new scheme to help make Leeds a great city to grow old in.

Inspired by similar successful projects in Nottingham and Manchester, ” Come In and Rest” encourages businesses to invite older people to pop in for a few minutes and sit down when they need to.

Participating organisations will put a sticker in their window to signal that theirs is a premise where older people know they are welcome.

Emily Axel, Age Friendly Officer for Time to Shine, said: “Looking at the spending power of older adults, you can see a great incentive for businesses to be age friendly.”

According to a report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research, the over-50s account for 47% of all consumer spending in the UK.

The scheme will officially launch at St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds with the support of Councillor Rebecca Charlwood, Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adults at Leeds City Council.

The event is open to the public and lunch will be served. Please book a place via Emily@opforum.org.uk or 0113 244 1697.
