CULTURALLY DIVERSE WOMEN’S HUB

If you are a woman from a African, South Asian or South East Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern or Arab, Pakistani or Bangladeshi, Roma or Gypsy or any other cultural group living in Leeds, this group is for you.

Come and join your peers in a safe space for women only, to come together and share their stories, support each other, learn and develop new skills and knowledge, have your voices heard by strategic decision makers.

If this sounds like it’s for you please join us for an informal meeting. This group is a sub group of the Leeds Women’s Hub and will feed into the wider Women’s Hub agenda at the monthly meetings.

LGBT+ Women’s Space

A Safe Place for Older Women

Join us in a warm and welcoming space for those who identify as older LGBT+ women (over 40’s) to socialise, discuss and laugh together.

Before lockdown we met on the second Monday of every month between 2 and 4 pm.
Since lockdown we are now meeting online via Zoom every couple of weeks either on a Monday or a Wednesday afternoon.

Ada Lovelace Day 2020

“Leeds City Council, Sky, and Empowering Women with Tech invite you to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day with us with a day of inspirational digital, science and technology role models.
Delighted to announce that we have both Dame Stephanie Shirley & Helen Sharman as our keynotes, two women who have broken boundaries in science and technology.
We are also proud to be showcasing the ones to watch in 2021 onwards. The event is being streamed live – you can join for some of the talks or all of them, it’s totally up to you.

WOMEN’S LIVES LEEDS ALLIANCE INVITES NEW MEMBERS

The Women’s Lives Leeds Alliance is excited to invite organisations from Women’s and Girls’ Organisations in Leeds to apply to join.

Women’s Lives Leeds is a dynamic and strategic Alliance of women’s and girls’ organisations in Leeds.  Alliance members have been working together since 2016 to empower women and girls, and to support the people and structures around women and girls which enable them to reach their potential.

If you would like to apply for membership of Women’s Lives Leeds Alliance and your organisation fulfils the membership criteria, please send an Expression of Interest of no more than 2 pages of A4 to: Chair@womenslivesleeds.org.uk by midday on Friday 9th October 2020.

The Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board (LSAB) is hosting three sessions of – Legal remedies in relation to domestic abuse from a safeguarding perspective training.

The sessions are taking place on 23rd, 25th & 26th November 2020.

The sessions will be delivered by Fiona Bateman:

Fiona is a founding trustee director at CASCAIDr and works as an Independent Chair to Safeguarding Adults Boards. Fiona is an experienced solicitor with expert knowledge of health and social care law and safeguarding responsibilities.

The sessions are taking place online via Zoom.

COVID-19 Information

Keeping yourself safe:

  1. Keep a safe distance from others.
  2. Wash your hands regularly, for 20 seconds.
  3. You must wear a face covering on public transport, in shops and in healthcare settings.
  4. No one in your household should leave home if any one person has symptoms.
  5. If you have symptoms, stay at home and book a free test on the NHS website or ring 119.
  6. If you need to stay at home and have no family or friends for support, ring 0113 378 1877.

There has been recent NHS research which found BAME pregnant women were more likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID. As a result, the NHS is rolling out additional support for pregnant Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority (BAME) women, as new research shows heightened risks facing women from minority groups. The Local Maternity System created a series of films in community languages, delivered by clinicians, that aim to raise awareness among pregnant women about risk factors, signs and symptoms of coronavirus infection and how to protect themselves. View the videos here.
