Summer Schools at Inkwell – last few places remaining

Course One
MAKING BOOKS FROM SCRATCH
Tuesday 4th July to Thursday 6th July 10am – 3pm
Venue: Inkwell, 32 Potternewton Lane, Chapel Allerton, Leeds LS7 3LW
Tutor: Louise Atkinson

This three day course will teach you how to make your own books using a number of different techniques and materials. You will also learn about the history and contemporary uses of handmade books and bookbinding. No experience is needed, however we will be exploring ways to incorporate your own ideas and materials such as putting photographs into your books.

Course Two
FIGURE AND LANDSCAPE – DRAWING AND PAINTING
Tuesday 11th July to Thursday 13th July 10am – 4pm
Venue: Inkwell, 32 Potternewton Lane, Chapel Allerton, Leeds LS7 3LW

This three day course will look at drawing and painting the figure in the landscape. You will visit Kirkstall Abbey, take photos on cameras and iPads, and draw/paint the abbey using sketch books, pencils and watercolour paints. We will also experiment, learn life drawing techniques and look at artists Turner and Cotman as well as exploring contemporary painting/drawing. We will be using Inkwell Arts as our studio base. Learners will complete a series of drawings and paintings and engage in informal discussions if you choose. We can provide a small number of cameras/iPads to use and share, or you are welcome to bring your own.

FEE INFORMATION FOR LLDD COURSES
Free – if you are in receipt of income related benefits or if you declare a health related issue

£11.20 Making Books from Scratch / £13.60 Figure and Landscape – if you are retired and in receipt of a state pension

£42 Making Books from Scratch / £51 Figure and Landscape – total course fee

All materials are provided free of charge and you are also welcome to bring your own. Courses are suitable for complete beginners and those with some previous experience. You will work mostly in the marquee on Inkwell’s balcony space and may complete some work inside on the mezzanine. Unfortunately the space is not accessible. There will be a 20 minute lunch break. Priority will be given to learners who reside in Leeds.
