“I have a passion for supporting people and I am mostly led to supporting people who are at a disadvantage in life.
My passion for supporting people started in my teens when I volunteered for care work. Being young at the time it was very difficult as the work was very physical. I went to study hairdressing at Thomas Danby College, followed by an Art and Design course at Jacob Kramer College. I then moved on to support people with learning disabilities.

I was very fortunate to have the practical skills in creative design as well as the gift of encouragement and emphathy. This is where my passion for making carnival costumes began. I started  designing costumes for the Leeds West Indian Centre. Many sleepless and late nights were involved until I was satisfied with the costumes as I had a visual idea as to what I needed to achieve. I also encouraged young people to take part in the processions which involved big costumes and individual troupe costumes.

Whilst juggling my skills and gifts, I went back into the social care field, where I studied Health and Social Care at Thomas Danby College.

This is where my skills for helping young people came to the surface. I then went on to the University of Bradford where I achieved my Degree. Against all the odds I graduated with a Honours Degree. I believe that everyone deserves the support in life which will enable them to become the person they aspire to be, with consistency.

I am the kind of person who will always help anyone to overcome any barriers they face in life.

I have 2 children who I believe also have the potential to do very well. I also believe that children and young people should be valued, as they are the future. They need good role models who can bring the best out in them.”
